The Small Tourist Port of Santa MarinellaTourist Port of Odescalchi: a romantic setting over the sea of Santa Marinella
The Small Tourist Port of Santa Marinella is placed in a suggestive setting with an ancient sense, the Castle Odescalchi standing out in the background.
The whole area enjoys a mild weather most of the year and the clear waters of the sea. In summer, from the Mounts of Tolfa a thermal current goes down, making the waters of Santa Marinella an ideal dock for sailors who want to enjoy a calm sea, sun and wind. The sea bed is rocky and teeming with fish and in the port many clubs for scuba divers can be found.
The port is placed in the heart of the old town of Santa Marinella, within walking distance from the city center, among shops of any kind especialised in artisan and typical food products, everything fitting into a very pleasant historical and architectonical context. According to tradition, around the year 1,000, Basilian Monksi started building the village and the church devoted to Saint Marina over the area of the ancient Punicum, around the inlet where todays stands the Marina of Santa Marinella.
From Piazza Trieste, going down along Via Roma, walking alongside Odescalchi castle walls on the right and leaving the small church of Saint Marina at your back on the left, get to the panoramic terrace to enjoy a nice view over the whole tourist port. The terrace links the square below thorugh an elegant staircase characterised by a theatrical scenery with pink archs.
The small port Odescalchi is managed by a private company, Porto Romano Spa, that has taken care over the years to reorganize the spaces in the water and in the land and has supplied it with two modern floating jetties. The port today can hold up to 285 ships, maximum 15 meters long, and it counts with every kind of service, in addition to a stop for small fishing ships. It is under construction an innovative expansion project, to increase the capacity of the port, building a new breakwater.
The port of Odescalchi is an authentic pearl to be discovered. Ideal to spend some relaxing hours in a sunny day or for a romantic walk at night with your loved one!
The small port of Santa Marinella is, in fact, always open and can be visited all day long, with a surveillance service working 24 hours. Inside the small port there are, in addition, many fish restaurants and some bars. In summer, it is common to find stalls selling artisan products, events and concerts.
