The naval unit has finished recently the exercise “Mare Aperto 2018”, second complex training of the year of the Italian Navy carried by Comander in Chief of the Naval Unit in Central Mediterranean to guarantee a high operational readiness of the armed force personnel serving the Country. It has used open water and submersible units, amphibious units, planes and helicopters of the Italian Navy air force, in a very realistic scenario to develop joint and international activities.
The ship has 540 permanent members of the crew and extra 600 expert personnel can join on board. Cavour is a versatile platform, used mainly as aircraft carrier, but also as command and control unit of naval and air operations, logistic and amphibious platform and hospital ship.
The naval unit, equipped with moden technologies and cutting-edge engineering solutions, is one of the many operative abilities of the Italian Navy aimed to guarantee surveillance of sea spaces, protection of comunication lines for the protection of national interests on the sea and, at the same time, to develop thematic strategies in the framework of dual and complementary activities in favour of society.
