The Ship of Legality 2019: will leave again from the Port of Civitavecchia
The ship will leave again from the Port of Civitavecchia to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the deaths of Capaci and via D'Amelio. All information about the event.After 2017 and 2018, the Ship of Legality is ready to leave on the 22nd of May at 7pm from the pier 8 of the Port of Civitavecchia bound for Palermo, with 1,700 students on board. Again this year, the Ship of Legality, made available by GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci), is part of a educational path promoted by the Italian Ministry of Education to boost educational activities in schools aimed to teach a culture of respect and legality and for an active an responsible citizenship.
What is the Ship of Legality
It is an event, involving many students from all around Italy, especially from Sicily organized by the Ministry of Education and the Falcone and Borsellino Foundation, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and with the sponsorship of the Senate of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies. The aim is to say all together, out loud, "no to all mafias" and commemorate the 27th anniversary of the attacks where the judges Giovanni Falcone, Francesca Morvillo, Paolo Borsellino and their escorts, Agostino Catalano, Walter Eddie Cosina, Rocco Dicillo, Vincenzo Li Muli, Emanuela Loi, Antonio Montinaro, Vito Schifani, Claudio Traina lost their lives.
The event takes place also thanks to the active and daily collaboration of the State Police, the Carabinieri Force and the Finantial Police. The event has been growing in the last years thanks to contributions like the agreements signed with the National Anticorruption Authority (ANAC), the Antimafia and Antiterrorism National Public Prosecuting, the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), the National Association of Magistrates (ANM).
In the name of PortMobility, we are proud to contribute to this important event both giving support to the Port Authority with the assistance to viability, and providing shuttle buses for students from the station to the port and the other way round.
Concretely,
- on the 22nd May students will have 2 shuttles (of 54 seats) that will run from 10.30am to 3pm from the Train Station to Pier 8;
- on the 24th May students will have 4 shuttles (of 54 seats) that will run from 9.30am from the Pier 8 to the Train Station.
The Ship of Legality 2019: Programme
The event will start officially in Civitavecchia on Tuesday 22nd May at 5 pm, with the farewell to the Ship by the attending Institutional Authorities (attended by the Head of State Sergio Mattarella). The event will be held thanks to the collaboration of the Port System Authority of the Center-North Thyrrenean Sea, presided over by Francesco Maria Di Majo
The ship will leave at 7.00 pm and will arrive the next morning at Palermo where students of Sicilian schools will welcome at the port the students of the Ship of Legality coming from all around Italy, starting the commemoration like every year.
The streets of Sicily's capital city will be crowded with more than 70 thousand students with banners and chorus. The peak of the event will be the official celebration at the Bunker Room of the Ucciardone of Palermo. Finally, the two demostrations of the afternoon will merge under the tree dedicated to Falcone, in via Notarbartolo, where an educational and symbolic ceremony will be held (the solemn moment will be at 5.58pm, the same time of the deaths of Capaci). At the same time, in many other squares around Italy there will be similar demonstrations and moments for reflection to say no to all kind of mafias and to organised crime. A choir of voices will cross the country thanks to the activities organised by the regional offices of the Ministry of Education, which will animate the Squares of Legality.
