Views of the Ancient Port: exhibit at Fort Michelangelo

The exhibition dedicated to the views of the Ancient Port of Civitavecchia, organised by the Cultural Association Scrinium Art will be held from the 24th until the 30th of 2019, from 10.30am to 1pm in the suggestive location offered by Fort Michelangelo. Admission is free.

The exhibition is organised by the art historian Eleonora Chinappi, the archaeologist Massimiliano Galletti, by doctors Daniele Baroncini and Francesco Bravi, experts in communication and management of cultural heritage, founding members of the Cultural Association Scrinium Art, whose mission for several years has been to valorize the local cultural heritage through guided tours, events and conferences.

Old postcards, illustrations and reproductions of valuable carvings tell the history and sotries about the Port of Civitavecchia, portraying architectural views that are now lost, portraits of activities that reflect the secular traditions of the city.

The whole exhibit focuses on the image of the port of that time, enclosed between Molo del Bicchiere and Molo del Lazzaretto, the walls of Urban VIII and the arsenal of Bernini, limited south by the Fort Michelangelo.

The aim of the exhibit "Views of the Ancient Port" is to appreciate the history and the importance of the port of Civitavecchia, not only for the inhabitants but also for tourists "With the awareness that, in spite of the destruction of the World War II, the port is still here in front of us with a fascinating history to tell".
